Product Description This legendary oilskin coat may be the toughest 100% waterproof coat ever built. The 16 oz. oilskin fabric is finely woven, then double-oiled and was proofed for additional rain, wind, and snow protection. This coat features a removable shoulder cape, reinforced elbows, double snap front, both cargo and hand warmer pockets, saddle gusset, and leg straps. You'll find lots of fine detail and a draw-cord around the waist for superior fit. Inside is a soft cotton liner for additional warmth and protection. The very best available! Colors: Black or Brown. Unisex Sizes: XXS - 6XL.

Great Raincoat! June 9, 2010 T. Smith (Petaluma, CA) I bought this to replace my other duster that is too large. I originally purchased one of the classic trench coats by Barbour, but it only addressed the size problem and introduced a whole slew of new issues (including very uncomfortable fabric inside the sleeves) so I returned it and went back to the Down Under dusters.
This coat addresses all the negatives listed in my review of the of the duster I own The Oilskin Drover - the cape is removable, the inner liner is warmer and more comfortable, there are snaps available to accept the addition of another inner liner, the outer storage pockets have snap closures so they don't automatically open when using the hand warmer pockets, and the drawstring reduces bulk. A couple other benefits that may mean more to others than to me are the better leg straps, heavier canvas material, and better adjustable cuff snaps. I also found the collar and inside of the arms much more comfortable.
This thing is seriously heavy duty - the waxed cotton is dense enough to have greater durability than what's available in most leather trench coats. I would not wear this in warmer weather, though, as it insulates very well. The drawstring material could be better, though. It's sort of like a loose mesh shoestring that gets caught on the drawstring adjustment clasps and will probably break if adjusted frequently. As warned by the company, it has a heavy oily smell that goes away when hosed down and air dried and oil can be transferred to things in contact with the coat (much less in the pockets than the other duster they sell) so be wary. The interior pockets are unwaxed, so paper documents are safe in there. I wish the zippers on the interior pockets were a little heavier duty - I worry about damaging them when tugging - and the pocket size on the inside could be a bit larger... still better than the other coat and most coats I've owned.
This is full length, and will almost hit the floor when wearing if you are short. Great for protecting your pants from rain or water transfer walking through wet, tall grass. Unless you want bulk, order one size smaller than what you'd normally wear. I'm a size small in most things (37" chest) and an X-Small fits great with a little room so I can wear a sweater underneath. The cut is meant to give a lot of freedom of motion while moving/working/riding, and I imagine will provide somewhat greater abrasion resistance with the more generous cut in case you take a spill.
Really wonderful coat and most of the negative features can be easily fixed at home if they bust. Not the best all-use outerwear since it is heavy and warm, but great protection from wet and cold.
Exceptional Heavy Rain Coat April 1, 2010 J. Farren (Boston) I love this coat the cut and styling are perfect it will keep you bone dry in the wettest weather, Get the hood for full effect..
This coats only possible shortcoming are the snaps they could be a bit more aggressive, still I love this coat so Five stars.
Great duster, but does seem to run "large" March 22, 2010 S. Destromp (Vermont, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this coat for myself, in search of a classic western style coat. After reading the previous reviews saying that sizes seem to run large, I figured I was safe getting a Medium. At 5'8" and 160 lbs I'm a fairly typical male; however even the medium was a tad too large for even me. Perhaps if I were using it for winter wear, over several other layers of clothing it would be fine, but otherwise the whole affair seems rather comical on me, much akin to a child putting on his fathers clothes. All that said, I DO love the coat. Its of exceptional quality and seems to be one of the more durable pieces of clothing I've purchased in quite a while. Because of all that, I'm buying another one, this time a small. I'll give the medium to my dad; I'm sure he'll love it (and fit into it a tad bit better).
Tasman February 27, 2010 Cowboy (Ft. Worth, Texas United States) Ideal coat for what I wanted. Versatile and warm They do mean it when they say it does contain oils. Don't put the out side in direct contact with other clothes til it has a chance to wear off or you hose it off. Some snaps needed tightening. Had to order the lining directly from the company because of a glitch in Amazon's order form.
Delivery was promp and the people I dealt with extremely polite and helpful.
Keep Warm while Trail Riding December 6, 2008 Gail B. Goodman (Bedford Hills, NY) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This coat is a blessing for those who like to horseback ride in cold weather. The split seam in the back allows fabric to cover your legs down to the ankles when astride. The waxed cotton fabric shields you from wind and keeps you dry when it rains.
It is a large garment to wear while riding so getting used to the feel of it will take a while, but the first time I rode it in 38 degree weather (with some wind) I was NOT cold (!) Since I am petite, I bought the smallest size and it still felt like I was riding in a lot of fabric, but with the protection it provided from the wind, I was more than happy to work with that feeling. Wearing a wool sweater and cotton turtleneck underneath (plus winter riding boots, etc) I was the warmest I've been in a long time during cold days. Well worth the money to add to your riding clothing collection.
